The MATH SET is an exciting place to learn mathematics, problem solving, and study skills

Instruction

INSTRUCTION

Instruction at The Math Set is designed to meet individual needs with respect to curriculum, methods, materials
and scheduling.

Instruction is usually one-on-one. Group sessions may be scheduled when requested by a small number of
students with compatible needs. Each session is typically one hour, though longer sessions can be arranged.

During the school year, the number of recommended sessions per week are determined by the individual needs
of the student. One session per week is minimum. During the summer months, schedules are flexible and
planned around vacations, camps and other obligations. Sessions are scheduled on a monthly basis and are
payable for each month, in advance, on or before the 8th of the---- month or each week, at each session, with
prior approval.

At least monthly, the teacher makes contact with the student and/or parents to report progress and plan the
schedule for the following month.

MATHEMATICS DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENT

The assessment is an interview which provides a variety of situations for assessing the mathematical thinking,
intuitions, skills and strategies demonstrated by an individual. Performance is assessed as activities are
presented in the contents of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and logic using concrete objects, pictures, and
mathematical symbols. The methods and modes a student selects to solve problems, as well as answers,
are noted and evaluated. Based on these results, other appropriate diagnostic instruments are selected and
administered by the examiner.

At the conclusion of the assessment, a conference is scheduled so that the results may be shared and appropriate
instruction discussed.

STANDARDIZED TEST PREPARATION

Standardized test preparation at The Math Set is offered individually or in small groups. Students are placed
with instructors who are well acquainted with the test for which they are preparing. Students may choose to
work on strategies and/or customize their study to address their particular needs in math and language arts.
Instruction in only strategies requires a minimum of four sessions. Instruction in strategies and content requires
more sessions. A pre-test is provided, at no charge, to help the instructor better understand the student’s
particular needs.

TEACHING STAFF

The teacher is the key to a successful, positive learning experience. One-on-one teaching provides the
opportunity to tailor each session to the student’s particular needs and goals.

The Math Set seeks only teachers who are professionally qualified and have had multiple teaching experiences
in their respective fields. They have a passion for their subject and a desire to share it with their students. Our
staff consists of teachers who are currently teaching in the area, retired teachers, and former teachers now in the
business environment.
